10 Tips for Your Best Skin Ever
May 18, 2017
When it comes our skin, many of us have a love-hate relationship. From breakouts to rough patches, it can be hard to maintain that flawless complexion you only get from Instagram filters. With summer right around the corner, (depending on where you live: see #10 if it happens to be winter), now’s the perfect time to start getting your skin into its best possible shape. After all, you’re going to be showing a lot more of it. So we’ve gathered 10 essential tips for achieving that head-to-toe glow naturally
1: Just Your (Skin) Type
Maybe you have a problem with dryness….or perhaps oil is your number one enemy. It’s so crucial to find that perfect balance, which starts with finding the best stuff for your unique skin type. It’s why we pack all our products with ingredients to help solve every type of skin dilemma (more on that below).
Skin a bit thirty? Try our delicious Coco Luxe Coffee Scrub to naturally boost moisture levels. Need a little exfoliation in your life? Sugar Glow scrubs away dry, dull skin along with imperfections (bonus!), while being gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. And for the perfect pick-me-up, no matter what your skin type, try the original Coffee Buff, loaded with antioxidants to fight stretch marks, cellulite and uneven skin tone.
2: Super Ingredients to the Rescue
You’ve probably heard about superfoods, but what about super ingredients? These are the nature-based essentials that help promote healthy skin. And you’ll find them in every single one of our products. Because we believe what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. Here’s a rundown of each one and its many benefits. Learn more about all of our active ingredients at https://bodyblendz.com/pages/active
Coffee: The frontrunner of super ingredients; banishes dryness; targets cellulite; stimulates blood flow to aid in collagen production
Coconut Oil: One of nature’s best moisturizers; antibacterial and antifungal properties; powerful wrinkle & acne fighter
Jojoba Oil: Known for hydrating & healing; lubricates the skin & protects it from drying out; treats everything from cracked skin to eczema & psoriasis
Extra Virgin Olive Oil: A natural skin smoother; rich in antioxidants; combats dry, scaly skin; known to improve skin’s elasticity
Sweet Almond Oil: Naturally hypoallergenic; assists with skin rashes, psoriasis an eczema; reduces fine lines
Macadamia Oil: Dubbed a ‘miracle oil’; superior hydration properties; gives skin an instant glow; especially good for dry or sensitive skin types
Even the best skincare routine needs a little extra boost…and there’s no denying the positive benefits of drinking water. Not getting your daily intake can lead to dehydration, which can make skin appear duller while making wrinkles and pores more prominent. Most dermatologists recommend giving your skin a steady stream of H2O by drinking 8-10 oz. every day, making sure to spread them out for optimal absorption. The minerals in water help plump the skin’s cells for less visible lines while flushing impurities and toxins from your body to help reduce acne and breakouts.
4. Wear. Sunscreen.
We’ll keep this one brief because it’s a no-brainer. Soaking up the sun without protection is—pardon the pun—not a bright idea. There’s the very dangerous threat of developing skin cancer. Beyond that, it can lead to unnecessary and irreversible damage and premature aging from wrinkle-causing UVA rays. And you may be surprised to know that you’re at risk just by driving in your car, or even sitting next to an open window at home! Dermatologists recommend wearing a minimum of SPF 30 daily, depending on your skin type. And hey, we know the occasional burn may pop up from time to time, so if you need a little healing, treat your itchy, ouchy skin with Vanilla Blush, enriched with oatmeal and Vitamin E to soothe and nourish. (Just make sure to check with a doctor first, depending on the degree of your burn, or if your skin is blistering).
5: Cover All Your Body Bases
When you’re scrubbing down, are you making sure to get every last square inch of your skin? Many of us tend to focus more attention on certain spots like the face, arms, legs, or any problem areas (the ones our scrubs help combat!), but it’s important to also take care of the skin on our chest and neck. Not only do these surfaces see plenty of sun exposure but they can show signs of aging if neglected. So next time you’re in the shower, make sure to spend a little extra time on these important parts.
6: Rise & Shine
You know how good it feels to wash away all the dirt and grime of the day before settling down for the evening, but are you also taking this step in the morning? It turns out, lots of people think their skin is already clean from the night before. But while you’re in REM cycle, your skin goes into repair mode, secreting the toxins and oils that can prevent your daytime skincare products from working effectively. When you scrub your skin in the morning, you’re removing all the unwanted stuff so that the skincare you use during the day has a better chance of seeping into the skin since it has a clean slate to work with! (PS: Nothing gets your skin going like our 100% vegan scrubs).
7: Get Your Zzzzs
There’s no doubt that getting your beauty sleep every night can also benefit your skin. Not getting enough shut-eye can cause the skin to look pale and tired (dark circles anyone?) because circulation is impaired. There’s also that yucky thing called stress, which can come on as a result of sleep deprivation, aggravating skin conditions further, including acne, eczema and psoriasis. So what’s the takeaway here? Aim for the recommended 7 hours regularly, and if you occasionally opt for an all-night binge-watching marathon, we’ve got you covered in the AM with the right scrubs to perk up your skin.
8: Pillow Talk
While we’re on the topic of sleep, did you know that it’s actually the second largest cause of wrinkles? Next to sunlight/UV exposure, burying your face in a pillow every night is like ironing creases right into your skin! So if the thought of premature lines makes you cringe, simply try a new position. While sleeping on your back keeps your face off the pillow, it can actually cause lines on your neck, so it’s best to lay on your side, protecting all the those precious parts from unnecessary wrinkles. A little Sweet Almond Oil can work wonders, too. And if you prefer to sleep in the buff, you’ll just have to do a little extra scrubbing ;)
9: Switch Up Your Routine
You may not know it, but your skin has different needs during the day than it does at night. That’s why we’ve packed our products with all the good stuff you need to arm yourself against damage. While you’re awake, your skin’s exposed to lots of stressors: makeup, dirt, bacteria, pollutants and other environmental elements to name just a few. This causes free radicals to damage cells, creating wear and tear to the collagen. So in the morning, it’s best to stick to products that will provide proper defense for your skin to control the stress and help prevent damage. Aim for something with antioxidants, like those found in Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (try our Coffee Buff or Sugar Glow).
At night, it’s all about hydration, repair and nourishment. This will help keep your skin’s moisture barrier intact so it can look its best. For that, we recommend the super hydrating ingredients found in Coco Luxe or Vanilla Blush.
10: Seasons Change. So Does Your Skin.
Just like your skin has different needs for night and day, seasons are no different. Depending what part of the world you live in, you may be gearing up for hot or cold weather right now, which means it’s time to adjust your daily routine. In the summertime, there’s a lot more humidity in the air, so dryness is less of a concern for most of us, but breakouts are also on the rise. You can beat those unsightly blemishes by trying a product with Benzyl Alcohol, like Vanilla Blush or Coco Luxe, which also help sooth and nourish.
In winter, your skin naturally produces less oil, so for many skin types, you have to find a way to get those essential oils back while helping to maintain your skin’s balance. Most of our skincare essentials contain specific oils to enhance the moisture in your skin. And our absolute favorite product for hydrating and replenishing is Oily Love, which is great to use alone or after any scrub.
